Welcome to Nurture to Bloom

Hi! I am Kendal.

I am a virtual doula who supports mothers and their families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum as they navigate anxiety, uncertainty, and the many transformations of early motherhood. Drawing on my background in social work, I provide comprehensive childbirth & postpartum education rooted in an empowering approach.

With specialized training in lactation, matrescence, and nurture-based neuroscience, I provide holistic, evidence-based education that covers key aspects often overlooked—like fostering the nurturing bond between caregiver and child, and preparing for the transformative identity shift that comes with motherhood. This comprehensive approach supports clients and their families in making informed decisions that align with their values and unique needs.

My work is centered on helping clients move from a fear-based mindset to one of confidence and empowerment. I guide them to connect with and trust their own intuition, enabling them to navigate pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with greater ease and self-assurance.

Giving birth and becoming a parent has been the most transformative experience of my life, and it inspires me every day to support others on this profound journey. Whether you’re preparing for labor & birth or adjusting to new parenthood, I’m here to walk alongside you with knowledge, compassion, and support.

Reclaiming Childbirth. Reclaiming Motherhood.

About My Approach

Nurture and Empowerment

Building on my background in childbirth education, lactation, matrescence, and nurture-based neuroscience, my approach is deeply rooted in nurturing and empowerment.

I believe in nurturing—not only the new baby but also the new birthing parent, their unique bond, and the entire family system as they adjust to this new chapter. This nurturing foundation creates a space of safety and connection where transformation can happen.

At the same time, I’m passionate about supporting birthing parents to empower themselves. Through comprehensive, evidence-based childbirth and postpartum education, my goal is to boost confidence in a birther’s natural ability to birth and parent. I support each person in making choices that truly align with their values and needs.

I guide birthing people to connect with their intuition and trust their inner wisdom, while also equipping them with the knowledge and tools to advocate for themselves and their families. This approach helps shift from fear and uncertainty to confidence and empowerment—a transformation I’ve witnessed again and again in the clients I have the privilege to support.

About Nurture to Bloom

A little bit about my why

Becoming a mother was the most transformational experience of my life.

Becoming a mother was the most transformational experience of my life. During my first pregnancy, I prepared by reading books and taking prenatal classes, which helped me feel confident and empowered as I approached labor and birth. Yet, when I welcomed my baby into the world, the reality of motherhood quickly felt overwhelming and left me anxious—far from the calm I had hoped to maintain.

Knowing how much understanding helps manage anxiety, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about baby's sleep, matrescence, perintal mental health, nurture neuroscience and more. I realized that while preparation gave me strength for birth, the transition into motherhood brought new challenges I hadn’t anticipated.

Through this journey, I saw that many women miss out on important parts of childbirth education—like understanding matrescence, preparing for the emotional changes of motherhood, and nurturing the parent-baby bond. I also recognized how essential postpartum support is. No matter how much preparation we do, the deep transformation of becoming a mother can only truly be understood through experience. That’s why postpartum support matters just as much as education—it helps new mothers feel empowered, nurtured, and seen.

This is why I created Nurture to Bloom—to offer comprehensive education and ongoing care that fills those gaps and supports families through this profound transformation.

Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers– strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”

Me. My Story.

Get to know Kendal.

What fuels my body, feeds my brain, warms my heart, and lights up my soul?

Here’s a little glimpse into what makes me me:

  • A cozy latte with oat milk (because who can resist?)
  • Deep, honest chats with my bestie or a close friend
  • The fresh, salty air of the ocean filling my lungs
  • The sound of waves crashing — instant calm
  • Catching an amazing view that stops me in my tracks
  • A peaceful walk or hike through the forest
  •  That crisp winter breeze waking up my cheeks
  • Snowboarding down fresh powder — pure thrill!
  • Popping up on my surfboard and catching a wave all by myself
  • A glass of red to celebrate the day
  •  Yummy, soul-satisfying food
  • Getting lost in a good book or binging a new TV show (chick flicks included!)
  • Learning something new that sparks my curiosity

And of course, there’s an even longer list featuring my husband and kids — but that’s a story for another day!

A little bit about my story.

In my twenties, life was all about exploring the world. I gave university a try for a few semesters early on, but something inside me was pulling me toward living fully outside the classroom. So, I quit and followed that call—it was the right thing at the time! During that period, I ended a long-term relationship and made a big move to a northern Indigenous community, planning to work there for just a few months.

But those few months turned into several years. My rhythm of life became working for a few months, then taking time to travel for a bit, and then repeating the cycle. Along the way, I worked in another community where I met my husband. Even then, the pattern stayed the same—work, travel, repeat.

After a few years of this amazing journey, I decided it was time to go back to university and earn my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, bringing a new chapter full circle.

After completing my degree, I moved back up north and officially kicked off my “adulting” journey. I started my professional career as a Social Worker, my husband and I got married, we built our home together, and we began growing our family — and now, five years later, we’re celebrating this beautiful, unfolding journey, embracing all the growth, change, and opportunities it brings.

We do need heroes here. Giving birth is heroic. Having life passing through you is heroic. Becoming a mother is heroic.

My Family

Our Story in a Nutshell.

My husband is Eeyou from Chisasibi, in Eeyou Istchee—Cree territory in northern Quebec. We met almost 10 years ago when I came to work in his community for what I thought would be just a few months… but life had other plans. We've been together ever since. We chose to live in Chisasibi, build our home, and grow our family. I'm now the mama of two beautiful little beings—our first was born in 2021, and our second in 2023.

Together, we’re a proud multiethnic family, blending Eeyou and Québécois (French Canadian) roots. We’re also multiracial, multicultural, and multilingual—which makes life in our home rich, lively, and always full of learning, laughter, and love.

Life Up North

Why dandelions?

The meaning behind them.

 Dandelions symbolize:

  • Resilience & Strength: Dandelions can grow almost anywhere and thrive in harsh conditions. This makes them a powerful symbol of endurance, perseverance, and the strength to flourish under adversity.

  • Transformation & New Beginnings: The dandelion goes from a bright yellow flower to a white puffball that scatters seeds in the wind, symbolizing change, growth, and new life.

  • Wishes & Hope: Blowing on a dandelion puff and making a wish is a childlike act of hope and dreaming—often connected to innocence and future possibilities.
